In response to some comments on my last post, I have decided that removing a couple of the houses from that tile might be necessary. However, before I go that far, I wanted to try a different option.
What do you think of the below change? Is it enough to make the card readable? Or do I still need to actually remove the overlapped houses entirely?

I don't mind the stars overlapping, but I think they should be opaque. They are pretty much the important information on the card, and should stand out.
ReplyDeleteI'd really have to see the actual-size tile to tell.
ReplyDeletedo you really need 6 houses in that card? If it doesn't impact the game mechanics draw only 1 house!
ReplyDeleteAre you using some software to draw these?
The reason I didn't want to only draw a single house was that I wanted the scale to be somewhat close to the scale of the Office Tower tile.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I can definitely come down from six.
I'll also get rid of the opacity.
I am using a combination of Sketch-up and Paint.Net to do these.
Must the stars be in a regular pentagon formation? Suppose you spread the top three out more and moved the bottom 2 up, delete 1 house, swap the direction of the little culdesac roads, and arrange 5 houses such that a column of 3 is up the right side of the tile and a column of 2 houses is below the stars...
ReplyDelete... so the stars would be over grass (like in the tower tile) and the houses would be arranged in the rest of the space.
ReplyDeleteI like that suggested layout. I'll throw it together sometime this week.
ReplyDeleteDon't know how easily done with your software this would be, but suppose you made the culdesac a circle, with the houses on the outside of the road. Then you can keep the current star pentagon arrangement, just place it in the center of the circular culdesac. Also, maybe reduce the number of houses to 5, and have each star aligned with a house. This could give some sort of thematic connection between the stars and the background graphics.
ReplyDeletePinebars, while your suggestion would have an elegant layout, I don't want players to thing that the stars correspond to the individual houses. I want players to know that they are not part of the art, but an important gameplay indicator.
